BBQ Beef Brisket

Cut: Brisket
Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 2 1/2 to 3 Hours

Main Ingredients:

 2 1/2 to 3 pound boneless beef brisket
 3/4 cup barbeque sauce
 1/2 cup dry red wine
 
  Rub:
 2 tablespoons chili powder
 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder

Directions:
  1. Combine rub ingredients; press onto beef brisket. Place brisket, fat side up, in stockpot.
  2. Combine barbecue sauce and wine; pour around brisket. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover tightly and simmer 2-1/2 to 3 hours or until brisket is fork tender.
  3. Remove brisket. Skim fat; cook cooking liquid, uncovered 8 to 10 minutes or until reduced to 1 cup.
  4. Carve brisket diagonally across the grain. Serve with sauce. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
    Recipe Notes:

    A 3 ounce serving of brisket (flat cut) meets governmnet guidelines for "lean". To be considered "lean" a 3 ounce serving must contain less than 10 grams of fat, less than 4.5 grams saturated fat and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol.
